Interview with Michael Turtle who run timetravelturtle.com blog.
Tell us about yourself
I worked as a journalist in Australia for more than a decade and then, about five years ago, decided to travel the world indefinitely and run my travel blog. I love being my own boss and having control over where I go and when.
You have an unlimited travel budget for 24 hours. Give me your itinerary.
I would fly to Patagonia – one of my favourite places in the world – and get onto a ship going to Antarctica. I haven’t been there yet and I would love to see it for myself.
You have won the lottery. Tell me where you want to live.
Maybe this answer is boring but I would want to live in Sydney. It is where I grew up but it’s turned into such an expensive city. It’s actually cheaper to travel the world than to live there. So if I won the lottery I would by a house on the beach there!
Your favourite travel resource on the web?
My favourite site is Google Flights. It’s not the coolest thing on the internet but I love how easy it has become to find cheap flights and look at the different options For someone like myself who travels so much, it makes such a big difference!
What is the superpower you most want?
Time travel… obviously 🙂
What’s fuels your passion for travel?
I love constantly learning new things. I don’t see travel as a ‘holiday’ in the sense that you might lie on the beach and drink cocktails. That kind of thing bores me quite quickly. I like to use travel to see new places and meet new people and hear about the history and experience the culture.
Why do you write?
I became a journalist many years ago because I loved sharing stories. By writing my travel blog, I am able to continue doing that – but focus on the stories I want. I love learning something new or meeting an interesting character and then being able to tell my followers all about it.
Do your family and friends support your traveling escapades?
Yes, definitely. Although they may be a bit tired of me staying on their couches when I pass through town! 🙂
What is the title of the movie about your life?
What’s on your bucket list?
I have hardly done any travel in Africa so going there is at the top of my bucket list.
Can you imagine life without travel?
No, I think it would be very boring. I like to challenge myself all the time an it’s harder to do that when you are stuck in a routine.
If you were not travelling what would you be doing instead?
I guess I would still be working in television or radio in Australia. I assume I would be enjoying it but wondering what else is out there.
If you could be transported to one place at one time, what would it be and why?
I want to see dinosaurs. How cool would that be? So I would like to be transported back to a time and place where I can see as many of them as possible!
